A Brief Report on Ganapathy Group of Institutions run by Saraswat Education Society, Mangalore

Ganapathy School was started in the year 1870 in the verandah of Sri Umamaheswar temple, Ganapathy Temple Road, Mangalore as a Sanskrit School and later converted as a model school with a curriculum prescribed by the Education Department of Madras Government.   A group of enthusiastic Sarawaths started the school for the benefit of locals of Mangalore and in 1879 the school was taken over by Trasi brothers and TrasiParameswarayya became the first Headmaster.  On 27-9-1908, the school was set on a firm foundation as it was taken over by the Saraswat Education Society and Kabad Rama Rao, Rtd. Deputy Collector was the first Chairman.  The foundation stone for the new building (the present Campus) was laid on 10-1-1914 and the school was shifted from Umameheswar temple to the present campus in 1915. The campus is in the heart of the city with 2 acres land, equipped with beautiful buildings, spacious class rooms and a playground. Since then the school is serving the cause of education in various capacities.  The School reached its peak during the periods when Late M.S. Ekambara Rau, Late H. Panduranga Rao and Late Kodial Shankar Rao were the Headmasters from 1924 to 1972.  More than 1500 students were studying in the school in any academic year with classes from I to S.S.L.C.  As there was a great demand for P.U. education, the High School was upgraded to Composite Junior College in 1972.  There was a gradual decline in the demand for Kannada medium and the management felt the need of starting English medium school in the same campus and under the stewardship of Late GulwadiGopinathBhat who was the Secretary of Saraswath Education Society, GanapathyEngl;ish Medium School was started in the year 1987 with K.G. classes and in 1988 got the permission from the Education Department to start English Medium Primary School.   At present the present campus of Ganapathy High School has the following institutions with separate buildings, Heads of Institutions and necessary equipment.
